COVID-19 – otherwise known as coronavirus – is no normal virus.
Having already killed tens of thousands of people across the globe, the virus is incredibly deadly and has forced millions of workers throughout the UK to stay at home.
While the disease may typically be spread through the air, research has found that it can also be transmitted indirectly through contact with surfaces. Therefore, keeping your property clean and well-maintained is imperative.
Join us as we take a detailed look at how to protect your property from coronavirus.
1 – Wash Hands.
You should be doing this already, but washing your hands is one of the most effective ways to keep coronavirus out of the home.
The CDC and WHO recommend washing your hands vigorously with soap and water for a minimum of 20 seconds, and regularly using hand sanitiser to kill off the virus. This should be done following any activity around the home – whether that be cleaning the gutter, sorting the shed or washing your clothes.
2 – Avoid Face Touching.
Each person touches their face two or three thousand times a day. When you couple this with the fact that you and your family touch hundreds of different surfaces throughout the day as well, it’s pretty clear to see why germs and viruses spread so easily.
Once the virus is on your hands, it can then be easily transferred to you through your eyes, nose or mouth. From these entry points, it can then enter your body and make you sick. To avoid this from happening, avoid touching your nose, eyes, mouth or face as much as you can.
3 – Clean & Disinfect Often.
While on the topic of touching surfaces, when it comes to cleaning them, make sure to use a strong disinfectant capable of killing off the virus.
Cleaner-disinfectants typically make it quicker and easier to clean your property, since they can be used for most surfaces – whether it be in the kitchen, bathroom, garage or shed.
4 – Disinfect Correctly.
In order to be effective, disinfectants need to stay on surfaces for a certain amount of time. There’s no point giving a surface a quick spray and a wipe – some disinfectants can take up to ten minutes to kill common germs and viruses.
Therefore, when it comes to cleaning your home, make sure you’re disinfecting it correctly. Reapply disinfectants when required and focus on commonly touched surfaces like mobile phones, door handles and light switches.
